Why does 316L stainless steel strip need sensitization treatment

316L stainless steel strip itself belongs to a metastable austenitic stainless steel. When it is in solid solution condition, the material belongs to austenitic structure, while austenitic stainless steel belongs to steel that is easy to change cold deformation. When it is processed through cold deformation, it can not only improve the hardness and strength of the material, but also retain its toughness and plasticity, so that it has good rust resistance under atmospheric conditions. Many of the steel strips used need sensitization treatment. Today, let's talk about the relevant knowledge of sensitization treatment.


The so-called sensitization treatment of 316L stainless steel strip actually refers to the austenitic stainless steel with solid solution treatment. When the heating temperature is 500 ~ 850 ℃, chromium precipitates from the solid solution to form chromium carbide, which causes the grain boundary corrosion sensitivity of the strip. It is used to measure the grain boundary corrosion tendency. In short, sensitization treatment is a method of detection.


Because the sensitization treatment can make a large number of alloy carbides of 316L austenitic stainless steel strip (FeCr) 23c6 precipitate along the grain boundary, making the steel strip produce intergranular corrosion in the intergranular corrosion medium, the intergranular corrosion resistance of the steel strip can be effectively detected.


The steel strip is mainly applied in the cold working state to the parts that bear high load but want to strengthen the overall weight of the equipment. Therefore, when it is impacted by external force, the work hardening material itself will absorb certain impact energy, which can reduce the impact on the equipment.


However, due to the strong corrosion resistance ratio of austenitic stainless steel belt to reducing medium, the corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel belt in chemical media such as acid, alkali and salt is relatively poor. Therefore, we do not recommend this kind of steel belt to be used in harsh corrosion environment.
